Joyride is a large abstract expressionist painting measuring 142 x 112 x 3 cm. The inspiration for Joyride was heat. Blazing hot days, which shimmer in the sky. I wanted to capture the warmth and joy of long, hedonistic days. Perfumed fields of wild flowers bathed in a Saffron yellow light. Meadows of Sorrel tipped with red and creeping vines grown wild and abundant. Joyride signifies the excess of wild beauty, like a steam train, unstoppable and fierce, but so fragile. Joyride is painted in an abstract expressionist style using colour to create an emotion in the viewer. On closer inspection the painting comes into focus as a wild garden full of marigolds, poppies and daisies. Delicate butterflies are juxtaposed against the abstract nature of the painting giving the painting a focus and identity within its turbulence. Joyride has boxed edges which have been painted black.
