A field of red, ripples in the breeze. The blood of men, therein they lie.
The poppy strewn hillside looks out over the water. Waves roll onto the sand and I look through tall summer grass to the horizon. I see the beautiful contrast of the red flowers and sky. I feel uplifted by the colour and renewal of life.
I have used an expressionist style of painting to build movement and depth into the sky and foreground. Flecks of iridescent gold paint catch and reflect light and suggest floral shapes catching sunlight. Where Wild Poppies Grow has been kept purposefully simple in design. I wanted an expanse of red flowers set against dark grey blue skies with pure white daisies lifting the darker colours…a polka dot display of red and white. Tiny violet flowers hide in the undergrowth and strong expressive strokes capture the tangled array of grasses in the floral landscape. Where Wild Poppies Grow.

I want to create paintings which draw the viewer in, which makes them stop and then see more than the initial abstract form and colour....
