Description
Blissful Degenerates is a large abstract expressionist painting measuring 200 x 100 x 3 cm. It is on two panels each measuring 100 x 100 x 3cm.
Wild roses, savage and free, unpreened and wiry. Stretching their limbs to winter sunlight. Blissful Degenerates, bold and raw. Dancing in their faded ruination, refusing to bow. My inspiration for this painting is early winter. A flame like sunset, North winds and snow flecked banks. Walking my dogs I feel a cool sharp sting of air on my cheek but the sky is red and pink, a teasing memory of summer. Flecks of snow like echos of summers dandelion seeds float in the air. The colours are riotous. A Phoebus winter glow. I imagine winter to be blue and gray, without colour. This day is anarchic. In the hedgerow spindly, crooked persistent plants dance in the light. The blissful degenerates. Strong and savage winter roses, proud like blue veins on translucent skin, they flaunt their deviant beauty. This painting is about strength and having the courage to be different, like a rose that blooms in winter. Blissful Degenerates is essentially abstract colour which suggests strength. On closer inspection a wild hedgerow becomes evident, suggested and expressed through line and shadow. Juxtaposed to this abstract symphony are beautiful ethereal butterflies which bring an acute sharpness to the painting. This is a painting to hold the eye. Blissful Degenerates has been created on two bespoke canvases designed to be hung next to each other each measuring 100 x 100 x 3 cm giving a total painting size of 200 x 100 x 3cm. The boxed edges are painted black. This painting is ready to hang.
